Moreover, a type of advanced CMC product with more uniform substitution is usually called polyanionic cellulose (PAC). In our previous studies, we have used both CNF and PAC (carboxyl contents of 1.56 and 3.87 mmol/g, respectively) to fabricate composited polyacrylamide (PAM) hydrogels treated by Fe (III) and Zr (IV) species, respectively.

How Pac aqueous solution is used to polymerize a Pam/PAC composite gel?
As illustrated in Scheme 1, AM was polymerized through in situ radical polymerization in PAC aqueous solutions to get PAM/PAC composite gels; subsequently, the as-prepared gels were soaked in 0.1 M FeCl 3 aqueous solution for 12 h, followed by immersing in a large amount of deionized water for 24 h, achieving the equilibrium states of hydrogels.
How are Pam/PAC-Zr (IV) hydrogels prepared?
Similar to our previous preparation of PAM/PAC–Zr (IV) hydrogels, the ligand is premixed with reactant solutions of AM and PAC, and the precursor solutions are polymerized to obtain primary hydrogels, which are subsequently posttreated by 0.1 M ZrOCl 2 aqueous solution, generating composite hydrogels with improved mechanics and adsorption for dyes.
